Made in Unity 2022.3.5f1 (latest LTS).

A simple prototype where the player paints on a 2D canvas that mirrors the 3D environment they are standing in. The player has a palette that they can select colors on that represent different types of terrain. Currently there is a grass, water and mountain color, each with their own height.

The mechanics work alright, but there isn't really much of an objective in the game yet...

If you choose to expand on this project for day 2, you can take it in really any direction you want to. It could be a puzzle game, a calm simulation game, a shooter game, etc.. I had some initial plans for the gameplay when starting out, but working out the painting onto real world terrain took too way much time, so I decided to instead leave it more open-ended, which I think fits this jam better anyways.

Excited to see what people expand on with this type of gameplay!

(The WebGL build was added much after the deadline. Hopefully that's not against the rules, but felt I should probably add one so people can see the game before they download it.)

Few hours late, since i fell asleep right after submitting lol, but wanted to say i worked on the day2 version of this, and it was really fun to continue. The idea you started was really cool!
Here is a link if you wanna check it out: https://itch.io/jam/day-3/rate/2191401

This project gave me many ideas, here is my version for day 2: https://jebouin.itch.io/dungeon-painting

I'm new to Unity so I didn't have time to add a lot of content and it's also quite buggy, I can't wait too see all variations of this game!

Hey man!

I continued your project. I didn't find a good gameplay idea so I just improved everything. Here's what I did:
- Added forest & desert biomes
- Added 3D models (trees, rocks, grass...)
- Rewrote a good chunk of code related to painting
- Added a new cursor & added scroll option to increase or decrease the pencil size
- Removed Unity's default skybox

I am excited to see what the other will come up with!
I almost went for a tower defense game but I was more excited to work on the main gameplay feature.
